TIPS YOU NEED WHEN YOU WANT TO HIRE A NEW EMPLOYEE – 2

employment-agency-1Time to Hire

Once you’ve completed your behind-the-scenes evaluation and have turned up some promising candidates, you’ll need to know the dos and don’ts of interviewing someone face to face.

1. Some questions are off limits.

Whether on a written employment application or in person, it’s unlawful to ask about an applicant’s age, sexual orientation, marital status, religious affiliation or race. And questions pertaining to the nature of a physical, emotional or mental handicap can only be asked if an applicant will need special accommodations for performing a specific job.

2. Check references.

Before making a formal job offer, be sure to ask the contender for at least three references. Two of the references should be professional, and one should be personal to help endorse the character of the applicant. Then pick up the phone and call those references–do not neglect this step! You’d be surprised what references are willing to tell you about an applicant if you’d only ask.

Be sure to keep your queries as objective as possible, and, if you’re speaking to the professional references, make sure they relate directly to the candidate’s job performance and duties and to information provided on the application or resume, or to information provided during the interview. Forms of discrimination that apply to interviewing and hiring are also applicable to reference checking, so be sure to avoid questions that involve race, age, disabilities, national origin, religion or marital status. For a personal reference, find out how long they’ve known the person and then ask about the person’s character and work ethic; you might also ask if the person would hire the applicant themselves, if they had an appropriate job opening to fill.

3. Set a salary and choose the employee’s classification.

When it comes to paying and classifying a new employee, federal laws provide clear guidelines when it comes to both. The minimum wage currently stands at $5.15 per hour–that’s the lowest you can go when it comes to paying hourly wages. And if it’s a young person you’re putting on your books, the Fair Labor Standards Act sets the minimum age for employment in non-agricultural employment at 14 years old.

4. Handle your immigration issues carefully. With roughly 10 million undocumented immigrants living in America, obviously, this segment of the population has become a major factor in our workforce. If you’re sponsoring or petitioning a foreign national to work here, you must verify and send in documents proving his or her eligibility to do so here.

5 GREAT SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING TOOLS

SW

#1: Quill Engage for Automatic Google Analytics Reports

Google Analytics is full of valuable information, but sometimes there’s too much data to sift through. There are times when it would be easier to have a simple overview.

Quill Engage is a free tool that connects with your Google Analytics account and emails you a weekly summary of your data. It tells you about your site’s traffic growth or decline, where your traffic came from the previous week, which post got the most traffic and much more.

#2: BulkBuffer for Bulk Update Scheduling

For me, the coolest social media marketing tool is BulkBuffer—an extension for Buffer that allows you to upload items to Buffer in bulk. It’s perfect if you’re looking to share content from a large source or plan your sharing schedule for the week.

#3: Post Planner for Scheduled Facebook Posts

I recently discovered Post Planner, an app built inside Facebook that offers a value-packed dashboard to help you manage and enhance your Facebook strategy.

Post Planner not only allows you to schedule updates in advance, it also gives you an entire list of status ideas, access to the most viral posts on Facebook and insights on trending content based on your industry. It even has free training to help you maximize your presence on Facebook.

#4: PhotoSync for Sharing Photos Across Devices

My newest favorite social media tool is PhotoSync. It’s an app that lets you quickly share photos between your computer and mobile device (as long as they’re both using the same WiFi).

You simply download the app to your computer and mobile device, select the items to share and then sync. Your files instantly upload to the other device. It’s an easy way to upload many large photo files at once!

#5: KingSumo for Better Blog Headlines

Blogs depend on headlines to attract new readers, but it’s a pain to A/B test them—until now.

The KingSumo headline testing plugin for WordPress gives you the option to create additional test headlines for your blog posts right in the editor. You can add 2 to 10 headlines—it’s up to you.

After you publish, the plugin rotates your headlines to see which one performs best. KingSumo will automatically adjust the headline rotation to show the winning headline more often. The entire process is set-it-and-forget-it once you’ve added your headlines.

TIPS YOU NEED WHEN YOU WANT TO HIRE A NEW EMPLOYEE

Tips-to-Hire-Employees

For months, you’ve operated your new business as lean and mean as possible and continue to wear every hat yourself. Finally, you’ve hit a point–or your breaking point–where, in order to remain competitive and prosper, you’ll need to welcome a helping hand aboard your tight ship.

5 WAYS TO PREPARE FOR RETIREMENT

backview of senior couple looking over the sea

1.Start saving, keep saving, and stick to your goals

If you are already saving, whether for retirement or another goal, keep going! You know that saving is a rewarding habit. If you’re not saving, it’s time to get started. Start small if you have to and try to increase the amount you save each month. The sooner you start saving, the more time your money has to grow. Make saving for retirement a priority. Devise a plan, stick to it, and set goals. Remember, it’s never too early or too late to start saving.

2. Know your retirement needs

Retirement is expensive. Experts estimate that you will need at least 70 percent of your pre-retirement income – lower earners, 90 percent or more – to maintain your standard of living when you stop working. Take charge of your financial future. The key to a secure retirement is to plan ahead.

3. Consider basic investment principles

How you save can be as important as how much you save. Inflation and the type of investments you make play important roles in how much you’ll have saved at retirement. Know how your savings or pension plan is invested. Learn about your plan’s investment options and ask questions. Put your savings in different types of investments. By diversifying this way, you are more likely to reduce risk and improve return. Your investment mix may change over time depending on a number of factors such as your age, goals, and financial circumstances. Financial security and knowledge go hand in hand.

4. Don’t touch your retirement savings

If you withdraw your retirement savings now, you’ll lose principal and interest and you may lose tax benefits or have to pay withdrawal penalties. If you change jobs, leave your savings invested in your current retirement plan, or roll them over to an IRA or your new employer’s plan.

5. Put money into an Individual Retirement Account

You can put up to $5,500 a year into an Individual Retirement Account (IRA); you can contribute even more if you are 50 or older. You can also start with much less. IRAs also provide tax advantages.

But how can you have a good retirement plan if you don’t have a good source of income for now. You need to get something doing that will make you live a better future.

HOW TO GET OUT OF DEBT – 2

6. Figure out your debt pay down fund amount. Looking at your new budget, you’re going to be able to see areas where you might be able to cut back. You might also see categories where you need to increase spending.

  • In doing this step, no one is suggesting that you come up with budget amounts that are unliveable. Think about going on a diet. If you try to restrict your calories excessively, what’s the first thing you want to do? Krispy Kreme here you come, right? The key here is to be realistic.

HOW TO STOP PROCRASTINATING – 2

security

4. Stage four: Denial

This is the critical stage of the ProcrastiCycle. This is where you convince yourself you still have time, no, you don’t need sleep, coffee is a proper replacement for a meal, the paper you write in just 10 hours will be just as good as if you took a few days to write it, the Muses will come down from Mt. Olympus and inspire you to write the best thesis of your life.

Solution: Cold Shower

Admittance is the first step to recovery. Face your problems and find a way to solve them. Make a checklist of everything you need to do and start crossing out the things you did one by one. Having visual aid in the form of

a to-do list is helpful because it makes you see your tasks and makes them real. Once they’re out of your head you can’t deny their existence.

5. Stage five: Panic!

“Oh no, oh no, oh no! No more time! I’m in big trouble! God if you help me I’ll never procrastinate again! Oh Zeus have mercy on me! I’ll have to drop out of college! My whole life is ruined! Help! Help! Help!” The panic stage is pretty self-explanatory. Your palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy, your heart is racing, you start planning your escape to sunny Mexico where you won’t have to deal with any of this, basically, the end is nigh and you see it!

Solution: Calm Down

It’s a total cliche, but calm down. Drop everything and give yourself five minutes to regain composure. Have a cup of tea, meditate, open the window to get some fresh air. Do not think about your assignment. Try to come up with a reward you will give yourself when the task is over – a day off with friends, camping trip or a big chocolate cake – anything that will make you motivated to buck up and start working!

HOW TO STOP PROCRASTINATING – 1

security

1. Stage one: False Sense of Security

So you have a project to do, or an exam to pass or you really want to DIY something that will make your life easier or your room prettier. You collect all your resources, you set up the work environment and you tell yourself “I don’t have to start right away, I have plenty of time!” Well, you sir, have just been bitten by the ProcrastiBug, a vicious creature lurking in the shadows of book piles and DIY materials! You’re so convinced you’ll finish the project in time so you just do other (more fun) stuff.

Solution: Make a Plan and Vow to Stick to It

The first thing you have to do is make an elaborate plan and swear on your laptop’s battery you’ll stick to it no matter what! Make a big poster and paste it to your wall so you can see it at any point. It will remind you of what you need to do and make you feel guilty for not doing it. It’s okay to be a little mean to yourself if you know the outcome will make your life so much better!

2. Stage two: Laziness Overpowering

So, you are super-smart and adroit, you know you can do it and you know how, you are the best person for the job, but nah, not today, today is binge-watching The Arrow and The Flash day. No, today you just want to

kick back, relax, rekindle the romance between your laptop and little old you, lay in bed and drink tea, maybe order some pizza, you know, a casual Monday of a college student.

Solution: Just move!

Get out of bed, go for a walk, maybe do some yoga or go running. That is probably the last thing you want to do but at the same time the best. Moving makes the oxygen reach your brain cells faster and makes you feel energized and motivated, so get off that couch and take your dog for a walk (and maybe throw a frisbee in your bag – more fun for you and the dog).

3. Stage three: Making excuses

“I’m really busy right now with this old Sega Mega Drive I found in the attic that I’m trying to connect to this 21st century TV. No, I know I have that project to do but it can wait! It’s the Sega! My childhood calls!”

Solution: Get a reality check

You’re not busy, what you’re doing now is not more important than your exam/project. Leave the Sega/Game of Thrones marathon/cleaning your room for another day. Right now you need to focus and be decisive.

Watching YouTube videos on how not to procrastinate is still procrastination!

REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD START YOUR INTERNET BUSINESS – 2

internet-marketing-for-local-business

Reason #5 – Explore your interests

One of the greatest advantages of running your own Internet business is the flexibility this arrangement provides. When you work a day job, you’re tied in to a set schedule that in no way corresponds to the amount of work you have or the hours in which you’re most productive. Unless you have a very understanding boss, you aren’t able to drop everything for a two-hour hike when the weather’s nice or start your day at noon because you aren’t a morning person. [Read more…]

REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD RUN AN INTERNET BUSINESS – 1

images

Too many people view Internet business through an extremely narrow lens – either you’re pawning off your personal possessions on eBay or you’re trying to be Mark Zuckerberg with the next big Internet thing. The reality, of course, is that there are as many different ways to do business online as there are people making this lifestyle work for them.  For example, as an Internet business owner, you could –

  • Run an informative site that generates revenue through advertisements
  • Provide professional services to clients around the world
  • Generate client leads for offline businesses
  • Sell other peoples’ products and earn a commission for each referral
